Ghana’s Economic Policies Explained for Business Owners

As President of the UN Security Council, Denmark is shedding extra light on the future of UN peace operations. Under the leadership of the Danish foreign minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark has invited Council members and the wider UN membership to a High-Level Open Debate on ‘Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace Operations‘.

For over 75 years, UN peace operations have been a remarkable expression of international solidarity. Deployed to conflicts across the globe – with mandates to support peace agreements, protect civilians, reinforce rule of law and bolster inclusive governance – they are an indispensable tool to maintain stability and build lasting peace.

Yet UN peace operations have also struggled to fulfil their mandates and experienced major setbacks and failures. To maintain, develop and improve the tool in a rapidly changing world, UN peace operations must be adapted to new realities.

Become more flexible, more agile and better able to respond to changes on the ground – also in partnership with regional organisations.

The Danish signature event takes place at a pivotal moment, ahead of the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin in May 2025 and in the context of ongoing and upcoming reviews of both the UN Peacebuilding Architecture and UN Peace Operations as requested in the Pact for the Future.

Denmark looks forward to productive and inspiring discussions during her presidency – and onwards.
