The High Street Business

Telecel Ghana dominates the fixed voice market with 99.10% share, significantly outpacing competitors, despite the overall decline of fixed voice subscriptions.

Telecel Ghana has secured an overwhelming 99.10% of the fixed voice (fixed line) market share, according to the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) latest report.

Out of the total 306,214 fixed voice subscriptions, Telecel Ghana leads with 303,450 active users, cementing its position as the dominant player in this segment.

Trailing far behind, Airtel Ghana Limited (AirtelTigo) accounts for 934 subscriptions, representing 0.31% of the market, while Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) holds 1,830 subscriptions, making up 0.60%.

These figures emphasize the limited competition in the fixed voice market, where Telecel Ghana operates almost unchallenged.

The report also highlights a marginal growth of 0.02% in fixed voice subscriptions month-over-month, reflecting the market’s slow evolution as mobile and internet-based communication options continue to dominate.

Despite this, Telecel Ghana’s dominance reinforces its ability to maintain a strong foothold in a steadily shrinking segment of the telecommunications industry.

Vodafone Group Plc which was a leader in fixed voice in Ghana, taking over Ghana Telecom, completed the transfer of its 70% majority shares in Vodafone Ghana (Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited – GTCL) to the Telecel Group after successfully obtaining all the necessary regulatory approvals, including the agreement of the Government of Ghana as a minority shareholder.
