GLICO Health Insurance LTD has shown its dedication to pediatric cancer care by donating GH¢100,000 to Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, an initiative that supports the Paediatric Oncology Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The donation in Accra was part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting childhood cancer treatment and advocacy.
This contribution aligns with GLICO Health Insurance LTD’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda and comes after a GH¢100,000 donation to the same cause in 2024.

Through this continued support, the company aims to reduce the financial burden on families and improve access to life-saving treatment for children battling cancer.
Speaking at the presentation, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GLICO Health Insurance LTD, Maame Afriyie Boachie Nelson, said the company’s support is driven by a strong belief in equity and compassion in healthcare.
“Our continued support for the Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana underscores our belief that every child deserves a fair chance at life, regardless of financial circumstances,” she noted.
“This donation reflects our long-term commitment to partnering with key health institutions to strengthen cancer care and improve outcomes for children and their families,” she added.
Mrs. Nelson mentioned that her outfit believes that strong public-private partnerships are critical to improving healthcare delivery and expanding access to essential services nationwide.
CEO of the GLICO Group, Edward Forkuo Kyei, described insurance as an essential social product, stressing that beyond business, it exists to benefit everyone through premium contributions and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“Insurance is more or less a social product. And as a social product, even though it also has a business side, the essence of it is to make sure that everybody benefits from this arrangement, either by way of paying premium or benefiting by way of enjoying through our corporate social responsibilities as we are witnessing today,” he noted.
He revealed that the group’s corporate support is centred on three main areas which are health, sports and education with health being a priority that aligns with the services offered by GLICO Health Insurance.
He added that their involvement reflects a collective responsibility, stressing that no single entity can do it alone and that the goal is to promote inclusivity so everyone benefits.
He explained that oncology care, particularly pediatric oncology, requires significant support beyond what parents or the state can afford alone, which is why organisations like GLICO Health Insurance step in to help share the burden collectively.
“If you look at the oncology department and especially the pediatrician, oncology needs a lot of support. This is an area that parents alone cannot afford, state alone cannot afford,” he revealed.
“That is how organisations such as GLICO Health Insurance also come in to support, to ensure that the burden is not carried by the few but as one of the fundamentals of insurance, the burden is shared by all,” he added.

Donations like this play a critical role in ensuring that children undergoing cancer treatment receive the care they need without interruption.”
She added that this partnership brings hope to many families and strengthens their collective efforts to improve childhood cancer outcomes in Ghana.
