Accra, March 17, GNA – A new chapter has begun for Ghana Rugby as Ms. Rafatu Inusah takes the reins as President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) for the next four years.
Her election was confirmed during the GRFU elective congress held on Monday, March 17, where she ran unopposed, solidifying her position as the new face of Ghanaian rugby.
She succeeds Herbert Mensah, who led the federation for the past eight years, shaping the sport’s trajectory in the country.

Ms. Inusah will steer the affairs of the federation alongside an eight-member board, which includes:
Emmanuel Bamfi – Vice President
Christian Percy Adamson – Ghana Rugby Players’ Welfare Association Representative
Anita Atieku – Women’s Representative, Sacut Amenga- Etego- Board Member,
Prince Boahma – Board Member
Abdul Samed Said – Board Member
Mensah Emmanuel Kalos – Board Member
A Vision for Growth
In her acceptance speech, Ms. Inusah expressed her gratitude to the delegates for their confidence in her leadership. She also acknowledged the contributions of former President Herbert Mensah, commending his dedication to developing rugby in Ghana.
“As a federation, our athletes remain our top priority. We will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure they receive the necessary support to excel on the international stage,” she assured.
She also called for unity and collaboration, emphasizing that the continued growth of Ghana Rugby requires collective effort from all members.
National Support for Rugby’s Expansion
The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting rugby’s growth at all levels—from grassroots development to elite competition.
“As the new Director of the NSA, it is an honor to attend this historic elective congress. It is even more significant that Herbert Mensah, a Ghanaian, now leads Rugby Africa, the sport’s continental governing body. This is a moment of pride for us all,” he stated.
Encouraging Ms. Inusah, he added:
“This is just the beginning for Ghana Rugby. The journey ahead requires hard work, dedication, and visionary leadership. Madam President, I have no doubt that under your guidance, Ghana Rugby will achieve great things.”
With a fresh leadership team in place, Ghana Rugby embarks on a new era, aiming for greater heights both locally and internationally.
