The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has officially opened nominations for its upcoming elective congress, scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Media Center, Accra Sports Stadium.
This announcement was made public through a statement signed by Ben Addy, Secretary-General of the GWF.
Prospective candidates interested in vying for positions such as President, Vice-President, Secretary-General, Treasurer, and other board member positions are invited to submit their nominations.

The elective congress will bring together members of the GWF to discuss key issues, make important decisions, and shape the future of weightlifting in Ghana.

– Three Ordinary Executive Members
The GWF has experienced significant growth and success in recent years, with weightlifting becoming the fastest-growing sport in Ghana.
The sport made history by winning Ghana’s first gold medal at the 13th Africa Games Accra 2023. Additionally, Ghana is set to host the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship from August 15-22, 2025.
The elective congress presents an opportunity for members to contribute to the growth and development of weightlifting in Ghana. As stated in the GWF’s notice, “Your participation and contributions are crucial to the growth and development of weightlifting in Ghana.”
Guidelines for the elective congress will be issued to members of the GWF in due course. All members are invited to attend the congress and participate in shaping the future of weightlifting in Ghana.
