The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is encouraging employers across Ghana to prioritize the use of its digital platforms for submitting contributions, updating records, and accessing key services. This “Digital First” approach is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing paperwork, and enhancing transparency in employer-SSNIT interactions, ultimately benefiting both businesses and employees.
SSNIT’s Director-General, Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, announced plans to launch a full-scale virtual branch by the end of September 2025.
The virtual branch, he said, will serve as a digital extension of SSNIT offices, offering real-time customer service and seamless access to the Trust’s offerings.

“We are bringing services closer to the people to make it easier and more convenient for employers and individuals to meet their obligations under the law,” Mr. Biney said.
“Our digital platforms already exist, but we are scaling them to the next level,” he added.
Mr. Biney said that the Trust currently pays monthly pensions to more than 257,000 pensioners, highlighting the importance of continued engagement with employers to ensure sustained compliance and contributions.
Mr. Alex Frimpong, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Employers Association, called for SSNIT to intensify public education on the benefits of social security, especially using its digital tools.
He noted that greater awareness would lead to improved appreciation and ultimately better compliance.
“Only contributors can truly speak to the value of SSNIT, but ongoing engagement and communication are vital to resolving concerns and identifying areas for improvement,” Mr. Frimpong said. “
Presenting the current status of SSNIT’s digital services, Mr. Philip Kofi Senyah, General Manager for Operations, shared that the SSNIT Mobile App has seen 76,454 downloads on Android devices. Additionally, it has been downloaded 25,400 times on Apple devices and 953 times on Huawei devices.
He highlighted key features of the SSNIT digital ecosystem, which includes the mobile app, website, and USSD code.
These platforms enable users to register, pay contributions, view statements, and access a range of services from their mobile devices or computers.
SSNIT also revealed plans to expand its digital footprint by collaborating with partner banks across the country, ensuring broader access to its virtual branch services.
