Ghana’s Economic Policies Explained for Business Owners

On Thursday 15 May 2025, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Lt. Gen William Agyapong, engaged the Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Mr. Paul Adjei, on issues covering the financing of infrastructure for the newly established National Defence University (NDU) in Teshie, Accra.

The CDS appealed to the Board of Trustees and the Management of GETFund to support the financing of the construction of standard facilities to herald the new public university in the country. The National Defence University received accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in December 2024 to run tertiary programmes at all levels.

The CDS explained that the NDU merges four (4) existing colleges being managed by the GAF as tertiary institutions. These include the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS), the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC), the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC). and the Ghana Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The Administrator of the GETFund assured the CDS of the preparedness of Fund to make provisions out of its distribution formular that has been approved by Parliament towards facility upgrades at the new University. ‘’We are still populating facilities that will be tackled this year, so your presence and your reminder today is a timely one’’, the Administrator said.

The discussions further touched on the need to provide scholarships to deserving serving officers who are pursuing various programmes and courses in higher education, home and abroad.

The CDS was accompanied by the President of the National Defence University, Air Vice Marshal Felix Asante, Major General Emmanuel Kotia (Rtd) former Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Lt. Colonel Sena Affanyi, Protocol Officer to the CDS.
The GETFund team also had the following officers in attendance:

The Deputy Administrator, Mr. Alhassan S. Dandaawa; the Financial Controller, Mr. Alexis Asuinura, and the Head of Scholarships Unit, Mrs. Phillida Lamptey.
