The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) proudly participated in the Ghana Olympic Committee’s (GOC) first-ever National Federation Strategic Retreat, held from May 23–24, 2025, at the Eastern Premier Hotel in Koforidua. Representing the GRFU was our President, Madam Rafatu Inusah, who contributed meaningfully to the conversations shaping the future of sports in Ghana.
This historic retreat marks a significant step forward in strengthening collaboration among federations and the GOC. It offered a platform for direct engagement, collective reflection, and strategic planning—elements essential to building a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking sports ecosystem in the country.
Led by GOC President Mr. Richard Akpokavie, the retreat began with a comprehensive SWOT analysis of the GOC’s current position. This exercise laid the foundation for open dialogue and critical thinking around how the federations, including rugby, can align efforts to drive sustainable growth.

The Honourable Minister for Sports & Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, delivered a powerful keynote address, affirming government’s commitment to investing in sports and championing the establishment of a dedicated Sports Fund—a move the GRFU wholeheartedly welcomes.
Key priority areas addressed during the two-day retreat included:
• Athlete-centered development strategies
• Capacity building for federations and administrators
• Promoting gender equity in sports leadership
• Transparent and inclusive governance practices
• Building effective partnerships locally and globally
• Establishing clear mechanisms for dispute resolution
• Strengthening federation branding and public engagement
• Unlocking access to international funding sources
For Ghana Rugby, the retreat reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, strategic alignment, and innovation in how we develop and manage the game. The voice of rugby was heard, and we remain committed to contributing to the broader vision of national sports excellence.
The retreat concluded with a media engagement session, allowing the public and press to gain clarity on the key decisions and directions emerging from the conversations.
The GRFU extends its appreciation to the GOC for this timely initiative and looks forward to continued cooperation with sister federations as we push towards a united, athlete-focused, and globally competitive sports industry in Ghana.
