The High Street Business

Telecel Ghana holds a commanding 99.10% share of the fixed voice market, far ahead of its rivals, even as overall fixed voice subscriptions continue to decline.

According to the latest report from the National Communications Authority (NCA), Telecel Ghana has captured an impressive 99.10% share of the fixed voice (fixed line) market.

Of the 306,214 fixed voice subscriptions, Telecel Ghana tops the chart with 303,450 active users, firmly securing its spot as the leader in this segment.

Trailing far behind, Airtel Ghana Limited (AirtelTigo) accounts for 934 subscriptions, representing 0.31% of the market, while Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) holds 1,830 subscriptions, making up 0.60%.

These figures emphasize the limited competition in the fixed voice market, where Telecel Ghana operates almost unchallenged.

The report also highlights a marginal growth of 0.02% in fixed voice subscriptions month-over-month, reflecting the market’s slow evolution as mobile and internet-based communication options continue to dominate.

Despite this, Telecel Ghana’s dominance reinforces its ability to maintain a strong foothold in a steadily shrinking segment of the telecommunications industry.

Vodafone Group Plc which was a leader in fixed voice in Ghana, taking over Ghana Telecom, completed the transfer of its 70% majority shares in Vodafone Ghana (Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited – GTCL) to the Telecel Group after successfully obtaining all the necessary regulatory approvals, including the agreement of the Government of Ghana as a minority shareholder.

Telecel is a telecommunications company founded in 1986, with a strong focus on Africa. It operates mainly across the continent, blending traditional telecom services with fintech, e-commerce, and tech startup ventures.
