Robert Wugah Is Appointed the new Managing Director of Best Assurance Company Ltd

The Board of Best Assurance Company Ltd, an indigenous general insurance company, has appointed Mr. Robert Wugah as the new Managing Director. His appointment took effect on November 3rd, 2025.

With more than 20 years of practical experience, Mr. Wugah is a seasoned insurance expert skilled in strategy, innovation, general management, underwriting, reinsurance, and claims.

With more than twenty years in the insurance industry, Robert understands how effective leadership can boost growth and profitability He brings a wealth of knowledge about insurance service delivery and its influence on both people and businesses. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to Best Assurance,” said Dr. Tony Aubynn, Chairman of the Board.

“He also brings extensive knowledge of collaboration, product flexibility and technology from his over two decades of experience leading teams at the highest level in the insurance industry. This combination will be invaluable at ensuring Best Assurance delivers more impact at scale to all stakeholders,” he noted further.

As the Managing Director, Robert will provide leadership in shaping, repositioning, managing, and leveraging the institution’s existing market equity to deliver value to customers.

He will ensure that the Best Assurance will deliver market driven products and services that will provide the needed protection for retail and corporate clients.

“It is a tremendous honor to take up this role at the Best Assurance, as Managing Director,” said Robert Wugah. “Having done this for over two decades, my motivation has been to seek improvement and enhance value for our valued customers especially and the general public through the vehicle of Insurance services.”

Robert Wugah has a rich and deep understanding of the Ghanaian Insurance Industry as a practitioner for over two decades. Prior to taking up the role at Best Assurance, he had served as the Managing Director of Imperial General Assurance, where he led the team on their rise in the insurance industry over the past few years.

Key milestones under his leadership included a turnaround in growth and the profitability of the company with a subsequent increase in the market share since taking over in 2020.

He also led the critical restructuring of the Company which injected fresh energy into the activities of the Company. He headed various Departments at Wapic Insurance Ghana Limited (now Coronation Insurance Ghana).

He served as Head of Corporate and Broker Relations and ultimately became the Head of Technical Operations.

Robert was the Acting Head of Corporate and subsequently Head of Reinsurance at the Metropolitan Insurance Company (now Hollard Insurance Ghana). Until his appointment as the Managing Director of Imperial General Assurance, he was the Head of Technical Operations.

Best Assurance Company Limited is a homegrown insurance provider licensed by the National Insurance Commission offer non-life insurance services, covering areas such as Motor, Fire, Accident, Engineering, Oil & Gas, Marine, and Bond.
