The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) successfully hosted its much-anticipated Super Week Training and Education Program from March 14 to 16, 2025, at the XFM Building in Osu, Accra.
The intensive program brought together participants from across the country, equipping them with essential skills in coaching, match officiating, and first aid in rugby.

The Super Week featured high-level training sessions conducted by renowned World Rugby trainers, Dr. Joseph Kalanzi and Dr. James Ondiege Ochola. The program covered critical areas such as First Aid in Rugby (FAIR Level 1), which trained participants in emergency response and player safety protocols.
The Educator Course, also facilitated by the World Rugby trainers, focused on building a network of rugby educators who will contribute to grassroots development in Ghana.
Coaching Level 2 aimed at advancing technical and tactical coaching expertise, while Match Officiating Level 2 was designed to enhance the officiating standards within the sport.
Supervision of the program was led by Mr. Denver Wannies, Rugby Africa Regional Training Manager and World Rugby representative, ensuring adherence to international training standards.
The GRFU Super Week concluded on a high note, with participants successfully completing their respective courses. The initiative not only certified new coaches, match officials, and educators but also reinforced the union’s commitment to rugby development in Ghana.
Mr. Robert Bwali, Dr. Kalanzi, and Dr. Ochola played instrumental roles in delivering the sessions alongside educators Ms. Rafatu Inusah and Mr. Ouro-Koumoni Mahawiya. Their combined expertise provided an invaluable learning experience for all attendees.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Denver Wannies expressed confidence in Ghana’s rugby future, emphasizing that the program aligns with Rugby Africa’s broader vision of developing the sport across the continent.
“Ghana Rugby Football Union has demonstrated remarkable dedication to capacity-building and rugby education. The enthusiasm of the participants shows that the sport has a bright future in Ghana,” said Mr. Wannies.
The successful completion of the Super Week Training and Education Program marks yet another milestone for the GRFU. With newly trained personnel now equipped with critical skills, the union is poised to strengthen rugby at all levels in the country.
